Despite leading for over 31 minutes of Friday night's game, the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team was unable to pull off the road upset victory, suffering an 84-77 setback on Friday night to the 21st-ranked University of Chicago.
The Spartans fell to 9-12 with the loss, including a 2-8 University Athletic Association record, while the Maroons improved to 15-5 with a 7-3 conference mark.

CWRU led by as many as nine points on Friday night, and finished the game shooting a season-high 50.0% (29-58) from the floor, including 36.0% (9-25) from long range.

Junior forward Maura Schorr posted a career-high point total for the second-straight game, finishing with 22 points on a nine-of-15 shooting effort. She added five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block.

Schorr scored eight points and junior guard Jordyn Call added six over the first 10 minutes of the game to help CWRU take an 18-17 edge after the first frame.

An early 7-0 run from the Spartans, including six points from Schorr, put CWRU ahead 9-3 by the 6:45 mark in the first.

CWRU led by as many as seven during the period, going ahead 13-6 on a free throw from Plachta with 4:21 on the clock.

The Spartans led for the rest of the frame, but UChicago scored the final five points of the frame to make it a one-point game at the end of the first.

A three-pointer by Hartjes with 8:46 on the clock gave CWRU a 46-37 lead, its largest of the game.

UChicago closed the lead to just a point, 48-47, with 5:37 left in the third, but CWRU pushed its advantage back to eight with 2:56 left after another three-pointer from Hartjes made it 57-49.

The Maroons closed the gap again, getting it to a two-point game, 57-55, by the end of the third.
Fourth Period

UChicago tied the game in the first minute of the fourth quarter and took the lead with a three-pointer on its next possession, going ahead 60-59 with 8:44 to play.

Plachta gave CWRU the lead back with a layup with 7:40 to play, but the Maroons went back ahead with 6:57 left and never trailed again in the game.

UChicago's lead grew to as many as eight points down the stretch, en route to a seven-point victory.

The Spartans' 50.0% mark from the floor was the team's highest since making 50.0% of its shots against Pitt.-Greensburg on December 19, 2024. The last time that CWRU shot 50.0% or better in a UAA game was February 23, 2020 when the team shot 52.6% from the floor against Emory.
