Case Western Reserve University junior guard Mya Hartjes led all Spartans with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists, but her standout performance was not enough for the Spartans in an 81-76 loss at 13th-ranked Washington University (Mo.) on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans dropped to 9-13 overall with a 2-9 University Athletic Association record, while WashU improved to 17-5 with an 8-3 UAA mark.

Hartjes made seven-of-12 shots overall in the game and five-of-eight from behind the three-point line, en route to recording her third double-double of the season.

Senior guard/forward Emily Plachta added 19 points on a seven-of-14 shooting effort from the floor with five rebounds and an assist.

Junior guard Jordyn Call added 11 points, her eighth effort of 10 or more points in a game this season.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 40.3% (27-67) overall and 33.3% (11-33) from three-point range.
First Period

The Spartans struggled to get the lid off the basket, falling behind 8-0 early before a layup by Plachta with 6:15 left and a three by Hartjes with 5:42 on the clock made it a three-point game.

CWRU remained behind for the rest of the period, but closed the gap. Down seven with 1:38 left in the first, baskets from Plachta and junior forward Biz Watson made it a three-point game, 20-17, after 10 minutes.
Second Period

CWRU pulled even at 23-23 after a free throw from sophomore guard Mila Rossini with 6:48 on the clock, but WashU responded with a 9-0 run to go ahead 32-23 with 4:37 to play in the half.

Sophomore guard Taylor Angielski, who led the Spartans with nine points in the first half, hit her third three-pointer of the game with 52 seconds left to make it a 38-33 contest, before the Bears knocked down a three-pointer to close out the half and take an eight-point lead into the break, 41-33.
Third Period

WashU increased its lead to seven points, 43-36, with 8:50 left in the third, but a 10-2 run by the Spartans, capped off with a layup from Hartjes, gave the Spartans their first lead of the game, 46-45, with 3:46 left in the period.

CWRU's advantage was short-lived, as a three-pointer gave the Bears the lead back with 3:36 left, and WashU scored 15 of the final 20 points in the quarter to head into the fourth with a 60-51 advantage.
Fourth Period

The Bears were able to go up by a game-high 13 points, 64-51, with 8:19 left in the fourth period.

Call hit a three-pointer and Plachta followed with a layup to trim the Bears' lead to eight points, 64-56, with 7:38 to go in the contest.

Hartjes closed the gap to just five points, 72-67, with a three-pointer with 3:31 left in the game, but WashU expanded its advantage back to nine points in the final minute. CWRU quickly cut the Bears' lead back to three points on a layup with just over a second left by junior forward Maura Schorr, but WashU went on to hit a pair of free throws to secure the five-point win.

With her 19 points, Plachta now has 966 for her career. With three games remaining in the season, she needs 34 points to become the 17th player in program history with 1,000 career points.
