Case Western Reserve University first-year forward Alex Vincent was one of four Spartans to score in double figures on Sunday, finishing with a team-high 21 points, but it was not enough for the team in a 90-79 loss at Brandeis University on Sunday afternoon in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The loss completed a split of a pair of University Athletic Association road games this weekend, as CWRU dropped to 9-9 overall and to 1-6 in the league. The Judges improved to 12-6 overall with a 5-2 UAA record.

Vincent connected on 10-of-15 shots from the floor and added a team-leading nine rebounds and three blocks with an assist and a steal.

Graduate student guard Ethan Edwards, who played for Brandeis as an undergraduate, scored 17 points and collected five rebounds against his former team.

Sophomore guard Matthew Ellis came off the bench to score 16 points, shooting four-of-six from long range.

Senior forward Andrew Fox made five-of-six shots and finished with 11 points.

Junior guard Julian Scott also came off the bench to dish out a career-high eight assists and collect eight rebounds with two points.

CWRU finished the game shooting 47.8% (33-69) overall and 33.3% (9-27) from behind the three-point line. The Spartans finished the game with a 46-40 edge in points in the paint, a 17-2 advantage in second-chance points, and a 32-5 bump in points off the bench.
First Half

CWRU never led in the game, as Brandeis jumped out to an 18-9 lead by the 11:56 mark.

Ellis came off the bench to provide a first-half boost for the Spartans, scoring all eight of his points during the frame in a two-minute stretch, and hitting a three-point shot with 9:02 left in the period to cut the Judges' lead to 20-19.

The game remained within four points for the next four minutes, but Brandeis was able to create some distance later in the half, going ahead by eight points, 41-33, with 1:11 left, before a jumper by Edwards with five seconds left made it a six-point game going into the break.

Vincent led all Spartans during the first half with 12 points.
Second Half

The Judges came out on the attack to begin the second half, boosting their lead to 17 points, 57-40, with 16:10 to go.

Fox spurred a comeback attempt for the Spartans with six-straight points for the team to cut the lead to 57-44 with 15:25 to go and begin a 21-5 CWRU run, which included a stretch of 10 straight points for CWRU as Brandeis went six-minutes and 12 seconds without a field goal.

An and-one from Edwards at the 9:33 mark capped off the run and made it a 62-61 affair.

Brandeis responded with a three-pointer on its next possession to push the lead to four, and while CWRU kept the deficit to single digits until the final 73 seconds of the game, the Spartans would be unable to take the lead in the game.

Vincent's 21 points marked the second time this season that he has scored 20 or more points in a game and his ninth game of ten or more points. He is third on the team with 10.8 points per contest, second with 7.5 rebounds per game, and leads the team with 1.7 blocks per game. Vincent has recorded at least three blocks in each of the team's last four games and is second among UAA players with 16 total blocks and 2.3 blocks per game in UAA play.

Junior forward Logan Brown scored two points on Sunday to surpass 400 for his career.

Edwards has scored in double figures in ten-consecutive games for the Spartans, averaging 21.2 points per game during the stretch. He leads the team with 16.7 points per game this season.

CWRU is 32-29 all-time against Brandeis, and despite Sunday's loss, has won seven of the last nine meetings.

The Spartans will return home next weekend to host 22nd-ranked New York University on Friday, February 6, at 5:30 p.m., and Brandeis at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8. Next weekend will also mark Throwback Weekend for the Spartans, as the team will wear Western Reserve University Red Cats uniforms on Friday night and Case Institute of Technology Rough Riders uniforms on Sunday, to honor the history of the University.
