Behind a pair of second half goals from sophomore Izzy Probst, the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team upended the 10th-ranked University of Rochester 2-1 on Saturday night at Edwin Fauver Field in Rochester, New York.
The Spartans improved to 7-3-1 this season and 1-0-0 in University Athletic Association play. The Yellowjackets suffered their first loss of the campaign, falling to 7-1-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the UAA.
Stats and Standouts
- Probst scored her team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the season in the contest
- Senior Kat Tsarouhas was credited with her first career assist and first-year Sonora Hale matched Probst for the team lead with her third assist in the campaign
- Junior Ellie Palaian played all 90 minutes in front of the net, saving a career-high eight shots
- Tsarouhas, senior Kaylee Bannack, and sophomore Mia Modrovich did not leave the field during the game

First Half
- Rochester pressured early, sending five shots and earning three corner kicks in the first 14 minutes of game
- Palaian saved three of the attempts on goal
- Probst stole the ball in the defensive end and had a 1-on-1 opportunity with the goalkeeper in the 17th minute
- Her attempt was saved, keeping the game scoreless
- Rochester had the next shot of the game 10 minutes later, which Palaian saved
- CWRU earned a pair of corner kicks just over a minute later, but the visitors managed just one blocked shot
- The teams combined for one more shot in the period, a blocked attempt by the Yellowjackets in the 32nd minute
Second Half
- Palaian had her first save of the half in the 50th minute, and Probst put the Spartans on the board just one minute later
- Tsarouhas sent a long pass from the defensive third into the attacking area
- Probst beat everyone to the ball just inside the box and sent a left-footed shot into the corner for the goal
- The hosts quickly equalized in the 53rd minute with a goal by Eileen Harvey
- Rochester kept the pressure up over the next few minutes, missing a shot wide a few minutes after the goal
- The Spartans shifted momentum in their favor, earning a corner kick in the 61st minute and a free kick in the 62nd minute
- Palaian made her sixth save of the game in the 66th minute, jumping to touch the ball in the top corner
- On the ensuing corner kick, a Rochester shot hit the crossbar, leaving the score tied at 1
- An arcing shot by first-year Elizabeth DeHond was saved in the 72nd minute
- Six minutes later, she had another attempt from just outside the box that required a jumping save
- CWRU had a pair of blocked shots off a free kick and earned a corner kick with under 10 minutes left
- The hosts countered, earning a corner kick and taking a shot on goal in the 82nd minute
- With 4:33 left in the game, Hale sent a through ball in between two Yellowjacket defenders
- Probst reached the ball first, sending another left-footed shot past the Rochester goalkeeper for the game-winning score
- The hosts looked for an equalizer in the final few minutes, but their only chance on goal was saved with 33 seconds left in the game
Spartan Notes
- CWRU improved to 4-26-9 all-time against Rochester since 1987 with two of the four wins coming in the last two seasons
- The win was just the second all-time for CWRU in Rochester with the last coming in 2012
- Following the first goal, Rochester trailed for the first time all season
- The goals were the 13th and 14th of Probst's career. It was her second time this season scoring two goals in a single game and the third time in her career
- Palaian's previous career high of six saves came on October 11, 2025, against WashU
- Case Western Reserve improved to 1-0-1 against teams ranked in the top 25 this season and 4-6-6 against ranked teams under Head Coach Alyssa Johnson
- The win was the first by CWRU over an opponent ranked in the top 10 nationally since the Spartans defeated fifth-ranked Misericordia 2-0 on the road on September 8, 2023. The last time Case Western Reserve was unranked and defeated a team ranked in the top 10 was on October 6, 2015, in a 1-0 double overtime win over eighth-ranked Denison
