Case Western Reserve University junior Rowan Matorin dropped a hard-fought three-set match in the round of 16 of the singles at the ITA Cup on Thursday at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.

Matorin, who was unseeded in the draw, was pitted against Emory's Ajay Kartik, also unseeded, in the first match of the tournament. After dropping the first set 6-4, Matorin battled back to even the match with a dominating 6-0 showing in the second set, forcing a decisive third set. However, Kartik pulled out a 6-4 win in the third set to claim the victory and advance to the quarterfinals.

Matorin will now turn his attention to the consolation draw, where he will face Skidmore's Mustafa Ege Topbas at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
