Despite a game-high 18 points from junior guard Mya Hartjes and double-doubles from senior guard/ forward Emily Plachta and junior forward Maura Schorr, the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team suffered a 75-70 setback to the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans dropped to 8-8 on the season with the loss, the team's fourth in a row, including a 1-4 University Athletic Association record. Rochester improved to 9-7 with a 2-3 UAA record.

Hartjes' 18 points led all scorers in the game. She added four rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

After scoring a career-high 17 points on Friday, Schorr finished with 15 points on Sunday and added a season-high 11 rebounds. She also matched her career-high with five steals in the game.

Plachta notched 14 points and 11 rebounds with three assists, two steals, and a block.

Junior guard Jordyn Call added eight points, and senior guard Maya Roberts finished with seven.

CWRU finished the game shooting 32.1% (25-78) overall and 36.4% (8-22) from three-point range, while Rochester shot 44.8% (30-67) overall and 42.9% (6-14) from long distance.
First Period

Layups from Hartjes and Plachta, and a three-pointer by Schorr put CWRU ahead 7-2 with 8:40 to play.

After Rochester scored, Schorr added two more quick baskets to extend the Spartans' lead to 11-4 by the 6:33 mark.

CWRU remained ahead until the 1:10 mark when the Yellowjackets tied the game at 18-18 with a three-pointer, and then took the lead with a basket with 56 seconds to play in the first.

Schorr hit a pair of free throws to cap off her nine-point quarter and tie the game at 20-20 by the end of the first period.
Second Period

Rochester scored the first basket of the second frame, but Schorr gave the Spartans the lead back with layups on back-to-back possessions, and sophomore guard Taylor Angielski connected on a three-point shot to put CWRU ahead 27-22 with 7:34 left in the half.

Later in the frame, Hartjes and Call hit three-point shots on back-to-back possessions to push the Spartans' lead to nine points, 33-24, with 5:24 on the clock.

The Yellowjackets answered with a 10-1 run to knot the score at 34-34 with 1:42 to go in the stanza.

Two free throws from Hartjes in the final minute of the period gave CWRU a 36-35 lead going into the break.
Third Period

CWRU scored the first four points of the third period, with baskets from Hartjes and Plachta putting the team ahead 40-35.

The Spartans led 45-41 with 6:14 left before a 7-0 run by Rochester put the Yellowjackets in front by three with 3:40 to go in the third.

Plachta responded with a three-pointer to tie the score at 48-48, and Hartjes followed with a layup to put CWRU ahead 50-48 with 1:53 on the clock.

The teams continued to exchange baskets, but a three-pointer from Rochester put the Yellowjackets ahead 55-52 going into the final period.
Fourth Period

Rochester led by five points with 6:53 left before a three-pointer from Angielski cut the advantage to 62-60 with 6:39 left.

The Yellowjackets then took advantage of a stretch of almost seven minutes without a field goal by the Spartans, taking a 70-61 lead with 3:41 to play in the game.

Hartjes ended the drought with a three-pointer with 2:02 to play to make it a 70-65 score.

Plachta made a free throw with 52 seconds left to make it a four-point game, 70-66. Rochester hit a pair of free throws to go ahead by six with 19 seconds left, but a jumper by Schorr cut it back to four points, 72-68, with 10 seconds to go. After another free throw from the Yellowjackets, Hartjes made two more free throws with five seconds to play to pull within a possession, 73-70. However, Rochester added on two free throws to push the lead to five and put the game out of reach for CWRU.

CWRU was in front for the majority of the game, holding a lead for 21 minutes and 51 seconds of the contest compared to just 13 minutes and two seconds of the Yellowjackets being ahead. There were five lead changes and eight ties during the game.

Sunday's game was the third time in the last four games that Schorr has scored in double figures. She tallied her third double-double of the season and the sixth of her career.

Plachta recorded her fourth double-double of the season and of her career. It was the third time this year that both Plachta and Schorr have notched a double-double in the same game.

Hartjes scored in double figures for the 13th time through 16 games this season and leads the team with 15.6 points per game this year.

CWRU now stands at 18-45 all-time against Rochester, despite winning three of the last six meetings.
