Case Western Reserve University senior Thomas Wagner, a member of the wrestling team, and junior Mya Hartjes, a guard on the women's basketball team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.
Wagner won both of his bouts to lead the 21st-ranked Spartans to a pair of wins at the Claude Sharer Duals on Saturday at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland. During a 33-10 win over Manchester, Wagner did not give up a point in a 15-0 technical fall victory over Brady Schiffli in 5:00. To finish the day, he pinned Mount Union's Giovanni Duniec in 2:58 during a 37-12 CWRU victory. Wagner, who is ranked fourth in the region at 157 pounds, improved to 20-5 this season with the two wins with four pins and five technical falls. He has a career record of 78-47. The Spartans extended their dual winning streak to nine matches, moving to 10-2 this season with the victories.Â
The CWRU wrestling team will head to North Manchester, Indiana, for the Tom Jarman Spartan Mat Classic next Saturday. Action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Hartjes led the Spartans to a 63-48 road win at Carnegie Mellon University to open University Athletic Association play on Saturday afternoon. Hartjes led all scorers in the game with 21 points, shooting an efficient eight-of-13 shots overall, including three-of-five from three-point range, and converted both of her free throw attempts. She added four rebounds and led the team with a pair of assists. Hartjes leads all CWRU players this season with 16.7 points and 3.4 assists per game and has added 6.9 rebounds. CWRU improved to 8-4 overall with a 1-0 UAA record following Saturday's win.
CWRU will return to Cleveland for its first home UAA weekend of the season, as the Spartans will host 15th-ranked Chicago at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 16, and 14th-ranked WashU at 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 18, at Horsburgh Gymnasium.
The Spartan Club Athletes of the Week are selected by the CWRU Department of Athletics each Monday, based on their performance during the previous week of competition.

Graduate student guard Ethan Edwards (men's basketball) set a program record for three-pointers made in a game during the team's 97-78 win over La Roche University on Wednesday. Edwards made nine three-pointers on 14 attempts in the game, surpassing the previous school record by one, while shooting 10-of-16 overall and finishing with 38 points, the fourth-most by a player in a game in program history. He also made nine-of-11 free throw attempts and finished the game with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. He followed that by scoring 14 points during the team's 87-69 loss at Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, adding two rebounds and two steals. Edwards averaged 26.0 points on 42.4% (14-33) shooting overall, 47.6% (10-21) from three-point range, and 77.8% (14-18) from the free throw line, while adding 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per contest over the two games. For the season, he leads the team with 13.0 points per game with 3.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals. The Spartans stand at 8-4 overall with a 0-1 UAA record following the 1-1 week.
