The 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team began Senior Weekend with a 6-1 win over the University of Mary Washington on Saturday evening at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio.
The Spartans improved to 9-3 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 4-7.
CWRU claimed the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 victories at first and third doubles. On the first court, senior Lily McCloskey and junior Katalina Wang bested Addison Felts and Natalie Kim. On the third court, junior Elsa Syed and graduate student Laurel Utterback earned a victory over Jacey Copeland and Evie Snyder.
Syed opened singles play by dropping just one point at sixth singles, defeating Snyder 6-1, 6-0. Senior Anna Kan followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Copeland at fourth singles, and Wang clinched the match victory by besting Linda Dimitroff 6-1, 6-3 at third singles.
At first singles, McCloskey defeated Felts 6-0, 6-4, and at fifth singles, Shukla won 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) over Sophia Broomall. The Eagles earned their lone point of the match at second singles in three sets.
CWRU will host Otterbein on Sunday at 5 p.m. to conclude the celebration of its graduating players.
