No. 16 Women’s Tennis Sweeps DePauw for Fourth Consecutive Win

The 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team defeated DePauw University 7-0 on Saturday morning at the DePauw Tennis Center in Greencastle, Indiana.

The Spartans improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Tigers fell to 2-5.

Juniors Ellior Rose and Asha Shukla won the first contest of the day at third doubles, defeating Allie Stamm and Briah O'Neal 6-1. CWRU secured the doubles point when senior Anna Kan and junior Elsa Syed bested Valerie Doherty and Katie King 6-2 at second doubles. At first doubles, senior Lily McCloskey and junior Katalina Wang completed the sweep with a 6-2 win over Ellen Gardner and Kassie Green.

Kan dropped just one point at third singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 over King for the team's second point of the contest. Shukla followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Doherty at fourth singles, and Wang clinched the match by taking down Gardner at second singles, 6-2, 6-2.

At sixth singles, sophomore Katie Wong defeated O'Neal 6-2, 6-0. Syed then won 6-2, 6-0 at fifth singles over Stamm, and McCloskey, ranked 38th nationally, defeated Green 6-3, 6-4 at first singles.

CWRU will next take on 26th-ranked Grinnell on Sunday morning at the same site with the first serve expected at 10 a.m.

Spartan Notes

  • McCloskey won her 73rd career doubles match, moving her within three of the program record set by Nithya Kanagasegar, and her 50th career singles match
  • CWRU has not lost a singles match in a dual this season and has dropped just one doubles contest, despite securing the doubles point in all four duals in 2025
  • The Spartans won their second consecutive match against DePauw after claiming a 6-3 victory in April 2017. The Tigers had won the three prior meetings between the schools, including two during the 2012-13 campaign
