Lee Wins UAA Weight Throw Title, Spartan Women Sweep Event Podium

The Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team swept the podium of the weight throw on the first day of the 2025 University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Chicago at the Henry Crown Fieldhouse in Chicago on Saturday.

Junior Michelle Lee won the event with a toss of 15.84 meters, claiming the first overall indoor conference championship for a Spartan since 2020 when Taylor Jackson also won the weight throw title. The throw was a personal best for Lee and ranks fifth in program history. Graduate student Michaela Burkhauser placed second with a toss of 15.47 meters, and senior Lauren Roskuszka finished third with a mark of 15.11 meters with both claiming All-UAA honors.

After one day of competition, Case Western Reserve is third in the conference standings with 33 points. Chicago leads with 56 points with WashU in second at 43 points. Trailing CWRU are Emory (26 points), Brandeis (15), Carnegie Mellon (12), and NYU (9).

Junior distance runner Ashley Novak placed fifth for the Spartans in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:29.72. The distance medley relay of junior runner Julia Hluck, first-year sprinter Siena Kannenberg, first-year runner Cecilia Postma, and junior runner Lauren Iagnemma finished fourth in 12:23.33.

First-year sprinter Riley Friedman recorded the best time by a CWRU runner in 20 years in the 200-meter dash. She placed 11th in the prelims with a time of 26.63 seconds, trailing only the school record of 26.48 seconds set by Emily Bruckner in 2005.

In preliminary action, junior hurdler/sprinter Grace Misiunas qualified for Sunday's final in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.71 seconds. Junior distance runner Arianna Holbrook will race in Sunday's 800-meter final after recording the eighth-best time in the event of 2:19.55.

The conference championships conclude on Sunday with action in the field starting at 11 a.m. ET and on the track at 1 p.m. ET.

  • Lee earned her second career All-UAA honor after placing third in the weight throw last season
  • The All-UAA honor was the fourth of Roskuszka's career and her first career at the indoor championship
  • Holbrook's time in the 800-meter run ranked third in program history, and Novak's time in the 5,000-meter run was the fifth-fastest ever by a Spartan
