The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team got back in the win column with a wire-to-wire 78-61 win over Saint Vincent College at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland on Sunday afternoon.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Spartans, who improved to 4-3 overall on the season. The Bearcats fell to 3-2 following the setback.

Senior guard Anand Dharmarajan led all Spartans with 14 points, scoring all of his points during the first half. He shot four-of-seven from the floor and made three-of-five three-point attempts during the game.

Senior forward Andrew Fox added 13 points on six-of-eight shooting and collected seven rebounds with two assists and a block.

First-year guard Shyam Patel scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, adding three rebounds and two steals.

First Half

The Spartans scored the first five points of the game, including three on free throws from Dharmarajan, to put the team ahead 5-0 by the 18:38 mark.

The Bearcats pulled back within a point, 12-11, with 13:03 remaining, but CWRU pulled away with an 8-0 run, capped off by threes on back-to-back possessions by Dharmarajan.

Patel had a steal and converted a fast-break layup to increase the Spartans' lead to double digits, 24-13, just over halfway through the frame.

The Spartans rallied off 15-straight points later in the period, taking a 39-16 advantage, the team's largest lead of the period, with just under five minutes to play in the half after a steal and a layup by junior guard Julian Scott.

CWRU finished the first half with a 46-27 lead after shooting 53.3% (16-30) overall and outscoring Saint Vincent 26-8 in the paint and 12-0 on fast-break opportunities.
Second Half

Saint Vincent was able to trim the CWRU lead to 16 points, 51-35, with 16:19 on the clock, but a layup by Vincent and a three-pointer by Patel pushed the Spartans' lead back to 21 points with 15:31 to play.

The Bearcats rallied to get back into the game, scoring 13-straight points to cut the lead to 56-48 with 8:23 remaining in the contest, taking advantage of a stretch of eight minutes without a point for the Spartans.

Patel broke the scoring drought with a three with 7:30 left to play, and after a basket by Saint Vincent, Patel added another three to push the CWRU lead to 62-50 with 6:59 on the clock.

The Spartans maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way, going back ahead by 22 points in the final minute before closing out the 17-point win.

Sunday's game was just the second meeting all-time between the two teams and the first since an 85-72 win by Saint Vincent during the 1986-87 campaign.

CWRU finished the game shooting 50.0% (28-56) overall and 36.8% (7-19) from behind the three-point line.

The Spartans had a 42-18 edge in points in the paint during the game and ended the contest with a 44-28 edge in rebounds. It was the fifth time through seven games that CWRU has finished with a double-digit edge in rebounds.
