The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams.
The Spartans moved to 6-1-4 and 0-0-1 in UAA contests, and the Yellowjackets went to 6-2-3 and 0-0-1 in conference play.
Stats and Standouts
First Half
- Neither team scored in the first 45 minutes of play
- Vilardo had the game's first shot on goal in the 20th minute
- Rossen attempted a shot that required a diving save by the Rochester goalkeeper eight minutes later
- Case Western Reserve's best chance of the first period came in the 41st minute, when first-year Raj Chitre headed in a shot with the goalkeeper out of position. However, a Yellowjacket defender was able to save the goal
Second Half
- Rochester broke the scoreless tie in the 67th minute on the third goal of the season by Kamal Ibrahim
- Just three minutes later, the Spartans tied the score on Rossen's goal
- Fein sent a free kick into the penalty area that found the foot of Rossen. He deftly tapped it past the goalkeeper to even the score at 1
- It was the second goal of the season for Rossen and the first assist of Fein's career
- The Spartans fought off a trio of consecutive corner kicks with 10 minutes remaining in the match to preserve the tie

- Case Western Reserve moved to 5-28-5 all-time against Rochester in a series that dates to 1987
- CWRU is undefeated in its last four UAA opening matches, moving to 2-0-2 since 2022
