The 15th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon by defeating Capital University 2-1 at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.
The Spartans improved to 5-0-2 on the season, staying undefeated seven games into the 2024 campaign. The Comets fell to 2-5-0.
Case Western Reserve scored first in the 39th minute with first-year Taylor Brackett registering her first career goal. She received a pass from classmate Abby Welker in the middle of the box and fired a shot past the goalkeeper to break the deadlock.
In the 62nd minute, junior Molly Shamah was pushed to the ground inside the box, earning CWRU its first penalty kick of the season. Junior Ceci Dapino expertly converted from the spot, doubling the team's lead with her third goal of the season and second in as many games.
With 15 minutes remaining in the contest, the Comets struck for their first goal of the game as a cross found the foot of Rachel Austin who snuck the ball past the endline for her fourth tally of the season.
CWRU recorded 21 shots in the contest compared to eight for Capital with 14 of those shots coming in the second half. Dapino had a team-high five attempts at goal with Welker shooting four times and Shamah adding a trio of shots. Graduate student goalkeeper Maggie Storti recorded a season-high five saves for Case Western Reserve.
The Spartans will next head to Erie, Pennsylvania, for a matchup against Penn State Behrend on Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m. to begin a two-game road trip.

- The Spartans celebrated their five graduating team members with a Senior Day ceremony prior to the game. Seniors Montgomarie Essex, Carolyn Koutures, Abigail Meneses, Katie Rishel, and Sydney Schenk were honored during the festivities. Their class has compiled a 53-5-9 (.858) record over the last four seasons, the most wins and second-best four-year winning percentage in program history
- CWRU has now completed 49 consecutive regular season non-conference matches without a loss, going 46-0-3 in those matches
- Case Western Reserve remained perfect in its all-time meetings with Capital, improving to 6-0-0 against the Comets in program history with four of the wins coming in the last four seasons
- The Comets ended the Spartans shutout streak at three matches, with CWRU conceding a goal for the first time in 362 minutes and 47 seconds
- The penalty kick attempt and goal by Dapino was the first of her career and the first time a Spartan scored from the spot since Aniya Hartzler converted against the Comets on September 24, 2023, in a 2-0 victory
