For the second time in program history, the Case Western Reserve University softball team reached the Finals of the NCAA Championship, placing seventh in the country in 2024 after a historic season.
The Spartans won a program record 40 games during the season, finishing the campaign with an overall record of 40-9. The squad won the University Athletic Association for the third consecutive year, hosted an NCAA Regional for the third time, and advanced to the Super Regional Round for the second time in three seasons.
With the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament secured, Case Western Reserve opened the postseason with a 7-4 win over Penn St. Behrend in the Cleveland Regional. However, following a 7-1 loss to Calvin, the team needed to win three consecutive games to keep its season alive. In the first elimination contest, first-year Karen Potts delivered a go-ahead two-run home run in an 8-7 victory over Dominican. The following day, junior Lexi Miskey allowed just one run over 14 innings, and senior KaiLi Gross drove in five runs as the Spartans defeated Calvin 4-0 and 3-1 to emerge from the Cleveland Regional.
Hosting the best-of-three Super Regional Round for the first time in program history, CWRU did not disappoint the home crowd, sweeping Coe College with 8-5 and 8-3 victories on back-to-back days. With the second win, the Spartans punched their ticket to the eight-team final in Marshall, Texas, the team's first appearance at the national championship site since 2018. The team dropped a pair of close games in Texas, falling 5-2 to Belhaven, the eventual national runner-up, and 4-2 to Rowan, who placed third in the country.
During the regular season, the Spartans went 34-6, including a 16-4 mark in the UAA. The team started the season with a 4-1 record at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Georgia and followed by winning nine of 10 games during its spring break trip to Florida. CWRU began conference play with nine consecutive victories before dropping three contests to WashU on the road. The Spartans recovered with a four-game sweep of Brandeis and clinched the conference title by winning their first three games against Carnegie Mellon at Mather Park. The UAA Championship was the seventh in program history and third in as many seasons.
