The seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University softball team will host the Super Regional Round of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship for the first time in program history, the organization announced on Sunday night. The Spartans will face Coe College in a best-of-three series on Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24 at Mather Park in Cleveland.
CWRU (38-7) reached the Super Regional Round for the third time ever by winning the Cleveland Regional over the weekend. The Spartans defeated Penn St. Behrend to open the regional, lost to 25th-ranked Calvin, and responded with an elimination game victory over Dominican before two wins over Calvin on the final day. Case Western Reserve last reached the Super Regional Round in 2022, traveling to Angola, Indiana, for a three-game series against Trine. CWRU needed all three games to defeat Hope in 2018 in the Super Regional to advance to the only NCAA Championship round in program history.
Coe (34-9) entered the NCAA Tournament as champions of the American Rivers Conference Tournament. The Kohawks won three consecutive games in the Regional Round, defeating Baldwin Wallace, Saint Mary's (Minn.), and host DePauw to advance to the Super Regional. Coe is making its 20th all-time appearance in the postseason, finishing as the national runner-up in 2009 and reaching the finals in 2006 and 2023 (placing third). The Spartans and Kohawks have never faced off in their histories.
The best-of-three series begins on Thursday, May 23 at 2 p.m. The second game of the series is scheduled for Friday, May 24 at 1 p.m. with the third, if necessary, game to begin at 3:30 p.m. that day.
More information about the series, including tickets, streaming, and live stats, will be released on athletics.case.edu later in the week.
