First-year vaulter Holly Schreiber bested her own school record in the pole vault as select members of the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams ended the regular season at the Mount Union Last Chance Meet in Alliance, Ohio, on Wednesday and Thursday.
Schreiber cleared 3.68 meters on her second attempt, beating her previous record of 3.66 meters set earlier this season. She placed fourth in the event.
Also competing in the field were senior Adrienne Wachtman, who placed fifth in the discus throw with a heave of 38.82 meters, junior Lauren Roskuszka, who placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.65 meters, and senior Yusuf Shaaban, who placed sixth in the high jump by clearing 1.91 meters.
Senior Grace Jackson won the 1500-meter run in 4:43.36, the best individual finish by a Spartan at the meet.
The CWRU 4x100-meter relay of senior Brett Callow, graduate students Juan Perez and Keith Cartwright, and sophomore Josh Bates placed fourth in 41.29 seconds. Individually, Bates was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.89 seconds, Perez placed seventh in the 100-meter dash in 10.94 seconds, and Callow finished eighth in the 200-meter dash in 22.06 seconds.
With the regular season complete, the CWRU track and field teams will await the announcement of the qualifiers for the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The top 22 times/marks in each individual event and top 16 relay times are eligible to compete. Likely Spartan qualifiers include Wachtman and Roskuszka in the javelin throw. The official announcement will be released on ncaa.com by 8 p.m. ET on Friday, May 17.
