In their penultimate opportunity to compete in the 2024 outdoor season, select members of the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams traveled to George Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio, on the campus Baldwin Wallace University for the Harrison Dillard Twilight on Thursday and Friday.
Junior thrower Lauren Roskuszka placed in the top five in two events. She finished third in the javelin throw with a toss of 35.00 meters, and she placed fifth in the hammer throw with a heave of 50.84 meters. Her mark in the hammer throw ranks second in program history and currently ranks 33rd in Division III. Senior thrower Ailean Duffie placed seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.49 meters.
A pair of junior distance runners recorded solid times for CWRU. Nate Gilbert placed 15th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:53.48, the third-best time in program history, and Aidan Nathan won the 10,000-meter run in 31:31.19.
The Spartan 4x100-meter relay of graduate student Keith Cartwright, senior Brett Callow, sophomore Josh Bates, and graduate student Juan Perez fell 0.03 seconds short of matching its program record, finishing in 41.28 seconds to place third. Individually, Perez placed 11th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.76 seconds, the third-fastest time in program history.
In a distance event, sophomore Lauren Iagnemma placed fifth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:15.90.
Members of the team will have one final opportunity to improve their times/marks for potential NCAA Championship selection, the Mount Union Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 16. The top 22 national times/marks in individual events and top 16 relay times qualify for the national championship meet.
