The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams will begin their seasons with the Spartan Alumni Meet on Saturday, December 7 at the Veale Center in Cleveland. Action is slated to start at 11 a.m. with a complete schedule of events available here.
Division III schools Allegheny, Baldwin Wallace, Grove City, John Carroll, Muskingum, Oberlin, and Washington & Jefferson, along with Division II Ursuline, and NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene will be competing at the meet.
After two members of the team received All-America honors in the women's javelin throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season and one was named an All-American at the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships in November, the Spartans are looking forward to the 2024-25 indoor and outdoor track and field season.
Head Coach Eric Schmuhl, entering his 13th season at the helm of the CWRU track and field programs, is joined on the coaching staff by full-time assistant coach Olivia Cattau (hurdles/vertical jumps), long-time distance coach Kathy Lanese Yohann, throws coach Rocco Mitolo, and horizontal jumps coach Drew Linebarger. Former Spartan Juan Perez will move to a coaching role and assist with the sprinters and relays.
Last season, senior thrower Lauren Roskuszka received All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in addition to a pair of All-University Athletic Association and All-Region honors. She will be looking to continue her success this year. In the fall, junior distance runner Lauren Iagnemma became the third Spartan in program history to earn multiple All-America honors in cross country. A two-time All-Region honoree during the track and field seasons, Iagnemma will look to break through on the national stage on the track in 2025.
Returning All-Region track and field honorees include junior distance runner Ayla Grabenbauer, junior distance runner Arianna Holbrook, junior hurdler/sprinter Grace Misiunas, senior distance runner Aidan Nathan, sophomore jumper Holly Schreiber, junior distance runner Melanie Taylor, and sophomore jumper Annie Wank. In addition, junior thrower Michelle Lee, graduate student thrower Ailean Duffie, and junior sprinter/hurdler Josh Bates all earned All-UAA honors during the 2023-24 campaign.

The next weekend will feature three meets, the Indoor All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein, a small dual against Oberlin, and the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Michigan. The Spartans will return home for the Ed Finnigan Greater Cleveland Colleges Invite on February 21 with a trip to SPIRE for an invitational the next day.
The University of Chicago will host the UAA Indoor Championships on February 28 and March 1. Meets the following weekend at Ohio Northern and Tufts will serve as the last chance for members of the track and field teams to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Golisano Training Center in Rochester, New York, on March 14 and 15.
The outdoor season will start the following weekend with the UAA Championships hosted by NYU on April 26 and 27 and the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held from May 22-24 at the nearby SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
