The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team received one of the 21 at-large bids to the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship, as announced by the organization during a selection show on Monday. The Spartans will be making their fifth consecutive postseason appearance and sixth tournament appearance in program history.
CWRU will be facing Skidmore in the first round at Shoemaker Field in Grantham, Pennsylvania, on the campus of Messiah University on Saturday, November 16 at 1:30 p.m. In addition to the Spartans and Thoroughbreds, the fifth-ranked Falcons and Gordon will be playing in Grantham at 11 a.m. The two advancing teams will play on Sunday, November 17 in the second round at 1 p.m.
New for the 2024 postseason, all games will be broadcast on ncaa.com.
Case Western Reserve finished the regular season with an overall record of 8-4-5 and a mark of 1-4-2 in University Athletic Association play. Seven of the eight UAA schools will be playing in the national tournament for the second year in a row, the most of any Division III conference. The Spartans were ranked 42nd in the final NCAA Power Index of the regular season to receive one of the at-large selections.
CWRU has a 9-4-1 all-time record in postseason play, advancing as far as the national final in 2022. Last season, the Spartans reached the second round of the tournament after a 5-1 victory over Grove City in the opening contest. Case Western Reserve also made the tournament in 2021, 2019, and 2011.
Messiah, champions of the MAC Commonwealth Conference, were ranked eighth in the final NPI standings. The Falcons went 16-1-3 during the regular season and are currently on a 15-game winning streak. Messiah will be making its 24th consecutive and all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, boasting a 78-11-12 record in postseason contests. The six-time national champions reached the national semifinals last season, tying WashU 1-1 in double overtime before falling in penalty kicks.
Skidmore, semifinalists in the Liberty League, finished the season ranked 36th in NPI to earn an at-large bid. The Thoroughbreds boasted an 11-3-3 overall record and will be making their seventh overall appearance in the national tournament. Skidmore last appeared in the championship in 2013, falling to Rowan 1-0, and have a 0-4-3 all-time record in postseason contests.
Gordon received the automatic bid from the Conference of New England after reaching the league's tournament championship game. The Fighting Scots, ranked 113th in NPI, went 10-5-5 in the regular season and are making their second-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship. Gordon lost 3-0 to Johns Hopkins in the first round in 2021 in its only other postseason appearance.
