The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team lost to the University of Rochester 3-2 in a University Athletic Association contest on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.
The Spartans fell to 5-4-3 overall and 0-2-1 in UAA play, while the Yellowjackets improved to 8-2-3 on the season and 2-0-1 in the UAA.
CWRU scored first in the ninth minute on sophomore Adam Pluszczyk's second goal of the season. The sophomore received a deflected ball at the top of the box, took one step toward the goal, and fired a shot into the top corner of the net.
The Spartans doubled their advantage in the 37th minute on a goal by first-year Amir Awais. Awais received a long pass, kicked the ball over a defender, and directed a sliding shot into the bottom left corner of the goal for the score. It was his second goal of the season.
In addition to the 2-0 halftime lead, CWRU had a 6-5 advantage in shots at the half.
After the break, Rochester scored three times, including once in the final two minutes, to win the contest. The visitors had a 10-2 edge in shots in the second period, controlling possession for the final 45 minutes of play.
Pluszczyk was the lone Spartan with multiple shots in the contest as seven players had an attempt on goal. In front of the net, junior goalkeeper Bradley Winter made five saves.
The Spartans will travel for their only two-game UAA weekend next week, heading to Chicago on Friday for a matchup against the University of Chicago at 4 p.m. ET and St. Louis on Sunday for a game against WashU at 12 p.m. ET.
