Behind a strong defensive effort for the entire game, the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team earned a scoreless draw with the University of Chicago on Friday night at Stagg Field in Chicago.
The Spartans moved to 5-4-4 overall and 0-2-2 in University Athletic Association play, while the Maroons moved their overall record to 7-6-1 and conference record to 2-0-2.
Junior goalkeeper Bradley Winter matched a career high with seven saves, playing all 90 minutes in front of the net for the Spartans. Two of his saves came in the final 15 minutes of play to secure the shutout. Winter lowered his goals against average to 1.00 with the clean sheet.
All four members of the CWRU backline—junior Phillip Washington, sophomores Cormac Apostolides and Cameron Thayer, and senior Josh Cook—did not come off the field during the game. Senior midfielder Lukas Dalakis also played the entire contest.
Both Case Western Reserve shots on goal came in the second half. Apostolides had a chance saved in the 49th minute, and sophomore Adam Pluszczyk's shot was denied in the 63rd minute. Pluszczyk led the team with two shots overall.
