The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team completed action at the Everybody vs. Cancer Invitational in Toledo, Ohio on Sunday, recording a number of strong performances at the three-day event.
The tournament featured a hidden dual format, with CWRU facing players from Holy Cross (Division I), Marquette (Division I), Wayne State (Division II), Tiffin (Division II), Chicago (Division III), Toledo (Division I), and Northwestern Ohio (NAIA).
The Spartans finished the weekend with a 24-9 record in singles matches (good for a .727 winning percentage) and an 18-13 record (.581) in doubles matches.
Among the top performers at the event for the Spartans were sophomore Anmay Devaraj, who went undefeated for the weekend with a 1-0 record in singles play and a 3-0 mark in doubles contests, and junior Casey Hishinuma, who was 1-0 in singles play and 4-2 in doubles matches.
First-year Derek Shiffer added a 3-0 record in singles matches during the weekend to improve to 6-0 during the fall season, while fellow first-years George Kosseifi and Santiago Salazar Garza each added a 3-1 record in singles contests. Other players with standout performances included senior Vishwa Aduru (1-1 singles, 4-2 doubles), senior Daniel French (1-0 singles, 3-1 doubles), graduate student Diego Maza (2-1 singles, 4-2 doubles), and senior Yuvraj Narang (1-0 singles, 4-2 doubles).
CWRU will now turn its attention toward the ITA Division III Men's Central Regional Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan next weekend. Participants and draws will be announced later in the week and posted to athletics.case.edu once available.
