Box Score The Case Western Reserve University baseball team dropped a 9-0 contest to Emory University in the opening game of a four-game series between the University Athletic Association rivals at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland on Thursday afternoon.
CWRU fell to 10-9 overall and 2-3 in the UAA following the loss, while Emory improved to 14-9 with a 3-1 UAA record.
Emory opened the scoring with a three-run third inning and added two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the ninth. Meanwhile, the Spartans were held to six hits during the day, all singles.
Emory's Aaron Mishoulam earned the win to improve to 5-2 on the season, pitching seven shutout innings. CWRU junior starter Reece Marley allowed five earned runs in five innings, suffering his first loss of the year to drop to 2-1 for the campaign.
Senior catcher Jack Anderson went one-for-four, extending his hitting streak to 15-straight contests. First-year second baseman Jasiah Harris, junior first baseman Zack Carinci, senior first baseman Nick Talarico, first-year outfielder Matt Trout, and junior outfielder Connor Stephenson each added hits for the Spartans.
CWRU and Emory are slated to play again on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., but rain in anticipated in the Cleveland area throughout the day.
