CWRU (11-1-4) received an at-large selection to the tournament after placing third in the very competitive University Athletic Association. Seven teams from the eight-team UAA qualified for the NCAA Tournament, the most of any Division III conference.
It is the fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament for Case Western Reserve, its fifth appearance overall, and its second under the leadership of Head Coach Abby Richter. The Spartans advanced to the national championship last season, the furthest run for any women's team in Case Western Reserve history. The team also earned selection to the postseason in 2021, 2019, and 2011, compiling an 8-3-1 all-time record in tournament matches. CWRU previously hosted the first two rounds in 2022, 2021, and 2011 and hosted the Sectional Rounds in 2022 and 2021.
The Wolverines have appeared in the NCAA Tournament five times before, with their most recent appearance in 2019. The Red Dragons are making their 20th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 15th as a member of Division III. Cortland has won two national championships (1980, 1992), and last appeared in the tournament in 2022, tying Wesleyan before falling in penalty kicks. The Blue Streaks, making the short trip across town, are appearing in the tournament for the just the second time in program history. JCU previously appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2001, falling to DePauw 2-0 in the First Round. The Spartans and Blue Streaks opened the season with a match against each other at DiSanto Field, a 1-0 CWRU win.
