Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 20 Men’s Soccer Falls to No. 5 Emory

The 20th-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a home contest to fifth-ranked Emory University 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.

The Spartans fell to 7-2-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in University Athletic Association play. The Eagles improved to 8-1-2 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play. The loss snapped a 12-match home unbeaten streak for CWRU.

Emory scored the only goal in the contest in the 44th minute when Turner MacInnis slipped a shot from outside the box into the bottom corner of the net.

Despite conceding the score, the Spartans controlled possession in the half, doubling the Eagles time with the ball. CWRU recorded five shots in the first period, two of which were on target.

In a physical second half, the hosts were unable to find an equalizer. Junior defender Sawyer Dockal nearly tied the score in the 60th minute, connecting with a ball inside the six-yard box, but his effort was saved. The Spartans earned six corner kicks in the frame (and nine in the match) including a series of three consecutive in the 76th and 77th minutes that led to two shots.

Case Western Reserve outshot Emory 11-4 in the match with a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. Dockal had a team-high three shots in the contest. Sophomore goalkeeper Bradley Winter saved one shot and took the loss to fall to 7-2-1 on the season.

The Spartans will look to rebound on Saturday when they continue conference play with a trip to Rochester, New York, to face the University of Rochester at 1:30 p.m.
