The Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team placed seventh out of 23 teams at the Mike Woods Invitational at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, New York on Saturday.
CWRU finished the meet with a total of 264 points. Carleton won the women's race with a score of 50, followed by Geneseo (60) and Lynchburg (82).
A total of six Spartans recorded career-best times at the meet, while five more notched their best times of the season.
Sophomore Lauren Iagnemma was the team's top finisher for the fifth time through five races this season, placing 11th overall out of 300 runners in the 6K race with a time of 21:32.9, breaking the 22-minute mark for the first time in her career. Sophomore Ashley Novak also recorded a career-best time, placing 37th with a time of 22:16.6, while senior Grace Jackson placed 48th with a season-best time of 22:29.4. The Spartans' final two scorers each notched career-best times as well, with sophomore Arianna Holbrook placing 114th with a time of 23:25.7 and sophomore Julia Hluck was 120th with a time of 23:47.4.
Completing the team's top seven were sophomores Ayla Grabenbauer, who was 126th with a time of 23:54.0, and sophomore Anna Avila, who was 152nd in a season-best time of 24:11.2.
Other finishers for the Spartans on Saturday included junior Alyssa Storm (175th, career-best 24:37.3), senior Jessica Kwasny (182nd, season-best 24:41.2), junior Mandy Lam (200th, season-best 25:07.2), junior Medha Patria (228th, season-best 25:55.4), and first-year Angie Getz (237th, career-best 26:10.2).
Geneseo's Penelope Greene won the women's race with a time of 20:47.8.
With just four meets left on the schedule, the Spartans will now turn their attention toward their championship season. Next up for the Spartans will be the 2023 UAA Championships, which CWRU will host on Saturday, October 28 at the University Farm in Hunting Valley, Ohio.
