Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team overcame an early deficit on Saturday afternoon, coming from behind to defeat Ohio Northern University 2-1 at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
CWRU remained perfect on the year, improving to 5-0-0 on the campaign following the victory. It was the 29th-consecutive regular-season non-conference win for the Spartans.
The Polar Bears, who received votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top-25, dropped to 3-1-2 on the season. Three of Ohio Northern's last five losses, dating back to last season, have come against the Spartans.
Saturday's game was a rematch of the second-round match of last year's NCAA Division III Championship, which the Spartans won 2-0 to advance to the round of 16.
The Spartans fell behind in the 19th minute on a goal by Ohio Northern's Alexa Clampitt, her first of the year, ending a stretch of 315-straight scoreless minutes by the CWRU defense. However, the Spartans continued to press and found the equalizer in the 26th minute of action. Graduate student Camryn Hartman finished a run along the end line with a shot that was deflected by the Polar Bears' keeper, but first-year Mackenzie Mueller was able to run onto the ball and finish with a shot into the back of the net. It was Mueller's second goal of the season, each of which has come in the last two CWRU games, while Hartman earned her first assist of the year on the play.
The score remained tied until the 75th minute of the game when a cross by first-year Andrea Silva from the near corner found graduate student Samantha Cramin, who cut into the six-yard box and seamlessly finished for her second goal of the year. Silva registered her second assist of the campaign on the play.
Junior goalkeeper Maggie Storti, who has a 0.60 goals against average in 2022, made a season-high five saves in the game. She improved to 5-0-0 on the season and 21-2-2 for her career, moving to within six wins of the program career record.
As a team, CWRU finished the game with an edge in shots (11-10), shots on goal (8-6), and corner kicks (9-1). Harman led all players with five shots, each of which was on frame on Saturday.
Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Wednesday, September 21, playing host to Penn St.-Behrend under the lights at DiSanto Field at 7:30 p.m.
