Box Score The Case Western Reserve University softball team's nine-game winning streak came to an end on Friday afternoon at the WU Softball Field in St. Louis, Missouri as the 25th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis defeated CWRU 7-2.
The Spartans fall to 11-7 on the season and 3-1 in the University Athletic Association. The UAA-leading Bears improve to 17-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Bears struck for five runs. The hosts added two more in the sixth to open a 7-0 lead.
Case Western Reserve scored twice in the final frame. Sophomore catcher Jordon Manworren sent a double to right center field to score sophomore outfielder Stevie Rieger. Following an out and a walk from first-year outfielder Isabella Russo, senior infielder Grace Yeung sent a single up the middle to score Manworren and the Spartans' second run. Russo finished the game with two walks and a stolen base.
CWRU will look to rebound on Saturday when the two teams face off again in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET.
