Box Score 2 The Case Western Reserve University softball team suffered a pair of losses to the top-ranked team in Division III on Thursday, falling to Texas Lutheran 5-0 and 10-2 at Ed Kruse Stadium in Seguin, Texas.
The Spartans fell to 2-4 overall following the two losses, while Texas Lutheran improved to 11-3.
CWRU struggled to get its offense going in the 5-0 loss in the opening game of the doubleheader. The Bulldogs scored a run in the second inning and added four in the fourth off first-year Kylie Hosey, who suffered the loss to drop to 2-1. Sophomore KaiLi Gross racked up two of the team's four hits, including a double, while sophomores Stevie Rieger and Jordon Manworren each added hits as well.
The Spartans struck first in the second game of the doubleheader, taking a 2-0 lead on a two-run single by first-year Isabella Russo. However, the Bulldogs answered with a five-run bottom of the second, and then added two more in the third and three in the fifth to implement the eight-run rule.
Senior Grace Yeung went two-for-two in the game with a run scored, and sophomore Kaila Nutter added a double, among the Spartans six hits in the game. First-year Lexi Miskey allowed just one earned run, but suffered the loss to fall to 0-3 for the campaign.
Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Friday, wrapping up its Spring Break trip with a pair of games against fourth-ranked East Texas Baptist in Wimberly, Texas, starting at 1:00 p.m.
