The sixth-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Washington University in St. Louis 2-1 at Francis Olympic Field in St. Louis, Missouri on Friday night.
With the win, the Spartans improved to 11-0-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in University Athletic Association play, currently tied for first in the conference standings with Emory. The Bears fell to 6-3-5 and 1-2-0 in conference contests. Case Western Reserve's 11-match winning streak ties the longest in a single season in program history after last year's team also started 11-0-0. CWRU is the last undefeated and untied team in Division III and one of two unblemished teams across all three NCAA divisions.
After conceding a goal in the 28th minute, the Spartans tied the score just six minutes later with first-year forward Andrea Silva's first career goal. Senior midfielder Anika Washburn received a free kick in the middle of the box and pushed it backward to Silva in the middle of the area. Silva fired a shot into the top left corner of the goal, beyond the reach of the WashU keeper, to equalize the score. Washburn earned her first assist of the season and the 16th of her career, tying her for sixth all-time in program history.
Neither team was able to break the deadlock for the remainder of the first half. On a counterattack in the 68th minute, first-year forward Maggie Farra found graduate student forward Camryn Hartman just outside the box in the middle of the field. Hartman laced a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to give CWRU its first lead of the match. It was the eighth goal of the season for Hartman, and Farra earned her first career assist.
The Spartans outshot the Bears 9-7 in the match, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Hartman, Silva, and Washburn each tallied a team-leading two shots.
Junior goalkeeper Maggie Storti earned the win in front of the net, setting a new program record for goalkeeper victories at 28. She bested former Spartan Anna Kennedy who won 27 matches from 2008-11. Storti recorded one save in the contest.
Case Western Reserve finishes its three-match road trip on Sunday, facing the University of Chicago at Stagg Field in Chicago at 2:30 p.m. ET.
