Box Score 2 The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split a pair of matches to close out the 2021 Pam Briggs Classic, hosted by Capital University and Otterbein University. The Spartans fell to Otterbein in three sets, but bounced back to win 3-1 against Franklin College.
CWRU moves to 4-4 on the campaign, while Otterbein improved to 6-2 and Franklin dropped to 4-4 on the season.
Versus the Cardinals, the Spartans fell by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-15.
Statistically, sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Ngo posted a team-best six kills. Junior setter Sara Rogers led in assists with 13. Sophomore libero Alyssa Blessinger tallied a team-high nine digs, while first-year outside hitter Rea Marfatia contributed eight digs.
Otterbein was led by Julia Vermilion who tallied a game-high 10 kills.
Against Franklin, the Spartans were victorious by counts of 22-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14.
Ngo led the attack with 12 kills, while junior outside hitter Gianna Lambert added 11 kills. Rogers set up the offense as she tallied 31 assists. The Spartan back row was paced by Blessinger with a team-high 28 digs, while Rogers registered 10 digs and three total blocks.
The Grizzlies were led by Miranda Wilson with 12 kills and seven digs.
Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Wednesday, September 15th, when the team travels to Berea, Ohio to face Baldwin Wallace University in Ursprung Gym. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
