Box Score The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team beat Capital University (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) on Friday night in Bexley, Ohio at the 2021 Pam Briggs Classic.
The Spartans improved to 3-3 on the season and head into the second day of competition at the Pam Briggs Classic. Capital drops to 1-3 with the loss.
CWRU was led on the attack by sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Ngo who tallied 12 kills on 22 total attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Meara Reeder contributed 10 kills and junior outside hitter Gianna Lambert added eight kills. Junior setter Sara Rogers rounded up a team-best 27 assists.
In the back court for the Spartans, sophomore libero Alyssa Blessinger tallied a team-high 20 digs, while Rogers contributed 11 throughout the match.
The key moment in the match came early on after Capital tied the first set at 11-11. The Spartans rattled off six straight points to regain the lead at 17-11. That momentum carried on as CWRU was able to hold off a late surge from the Crusaders and finished the set with a kill by Reeder and an attack error by Capital that allowed the Spartans to claim the 25-23 victory. CWRU continued to dominate in the second and third sets as they won by margins of five and six, respectively.
Case Western Reserve will be back in action at the Pam Briggs Classic in Westerville, Ohio on Saturday. CWRU will open play against co-host Otterbein University at 10:00 a.m. and then conclude the tournament with a match at 12:00 p.m. against Franklin College.
