The Case Western Reserve University softball team recorded its 10th-consecutive winning season in 2021, finishing the campaign with an overall record of 27-9.
The Spartans ended the season strong as they won their last four games. In addition, the team posted a season-best 10-game win streak during the middle of the season as CWRU hit .430 during the stretch and averaged 10.2 runs per game, while the pitching staff recorded a 2.26 earned run average. Overall for the season, the Spartans hit .367 and slugged 35 home runs, with the pitching staff notching a 3.14 team ERA.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Spartans were limited to a non-conference, in-state schedule that featured schools from NCAA Division I, II and III. CWRU exerted its home field advantage during the campaign, going 17-1 in games at Mather Park to improve to 96-31 over the last 10 seasons (good for a .755 winning percentage).
Case Western Reserve was paced during the year by senior shortstop Sarah Miller, senior pitcher Sidney Brannam and senior center fielder Arisa Cleaveland. Miller was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America First Team, while Miller also was named to the NFCA All-Region First Team, and Brannam and Cleaveland each earned second team honors. In addition, Miller, Brannam, Cleaveland, senior catcher Dusstyn Reynolds and junior third baseman Liv Thomas were named to the All-University Athletic Association Softball Team.
Miller, just the third player in the program's history to earn All-America honors and the first since former Spartan Annie Wennerberg received first-team honors during the 2015 season, had had a career year during her senior season as she led the team with 16 home runs, 38 RBI's and 61 runs scored. She also batted a team-best .422 (49-for-116) with 11 doubles, three triples and a team-best 41 stolen bases. Early in the year, Miller set the program's new single-season stolen bases record that was previously held by former Spartan Katie Wede who had 26 during the 2018 season. In addition, her 16 home runs ranked third among all NCAA Division III softball players during the regular season. For her career, Miller has hit .367 (115-for-313) with 75 RBI's, 29 doubles, 21 home runs and 10 triples. She has also totaled 66 stolen bases over her career, which currently ranks second in program history.
Brannam led the team with a 2.33 earned run average as she has only allowed 53 earned runs in 159.0 innings pitched. She ranked first on the team with 120 strikeouts and posted a 22-3 record in 28 starts. Brannam also totaled a team-high 14 complete games. In addition, she set the program's new single-season record for wins, as former Spartan Ilissa Hamilton went 21-8 during the 2018 season. In her four years as a Spartan, Brannam ranks first in school history with a 2.24 earned run average, third in wins with 51 and seventh in strikeouts with 252.
Cleaveland started all 36 games for the Spartans this season, ranking tied for second on the team with a .414 batting average (48-for-116). For her career, Cleaveland has batted .352 (152-for-432) with 98 runs scored, 67 RBI's, 42 stolen bases, 19 doubles and three home runs.

Thomas has appeared in 76 games throughout her career, hitting .389 (88-for-226) with 72 RBI's, 16 doubles, 16 home runs and 36 runs scored.
Other major contributors for the Spartans during the year included first-year outfielder Kela Jagoda who ranked tied for second on the team with a .414 batting average (41-for-99) and hit three triples and two doubles, while also tallying 18 RBI's and 23 runs scored. Senior second baseman Sydney Wagner batted .301 (31-for-103) with one home run, nine doubles and 16 RBI's, and senior outfielder Hope Yashnik tallied a .353 average (36-for-102) with one home run, four doubles, one triple and 19 runs batted in.

In addition, Gross batted .377 (23-for-61) with four doubles, four home runs and 22 runs batted in.
