Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Case Western Reserve University softball team suffered a pair of losses at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday afternoon, dropping the first game, 4-2, before falling 9-3 in the second contest of the day.

The sweep dropped the Spartans to 2-2 overall, while the Lions raised their record to 7-5 overall on the season.

Game 1: Mount St. Joseph 4, CWRU 2
The early game on Sunday featured a pitcher's duel between MSJ's Sarah Miller and CWRU senior Sidney Brannam.

The Spartans took the early lead in the top of the first as senior Dusstyn Reynolds lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored senior Sarah Miller from third. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth, when CWRU first-year KaiLi Gross launched her second home run in as many days. Gross laced a line drive that went over the right field wall, giving the Spartans a 2-0 advantage.

The Lions offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning, as they scored four runs off Brannam to take the 4-2 lead. CWRU was unable to push any more runs across the plate as MSJ held on for the victory.

Miller led the Spartans offensively as she went two-for three with a double and one run batted in. First-year Kela Jagoda also put in a good performance at the plate, as she went two-for-three.

Brannam started and went all six innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Brannam took the loss, dropping to 1-1 on the year, while Miller collected the win for the Lions to improve to 2-2. Kamryn McCool appeared in relief for MSJ to close out the game and earned her first save of the season.

Game 2: Mount St. Joseph 9, CWRU 3
The Spartans once again got out to the early lead in the second game of the day, as senior Sydney Wagner hit her first career home run, a solo shot to left field in the top of the third inning. CWRU continued to add to their lead in the inning as Reynolds hit an RBI double that scored Miller and then junior Liv Thomas laced a RBI single to right field that scored Reynolds.

However, the Lions' offense was able to score nine runs in the bottom of the fourth. MSJ's pitching held the Spartans offense scoreless in the final three innings, as they secured the 9-3 victory.

First-year Jenna Jaklich took the loss for CWRU, falling to 0-1 on the year.

Case Western Reserve will return to action on Tuesday, March 16th, when the team travels to Springfield, Ohio to face Wittenberg University for a doubleheader. The first pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
