Box Score 2 The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split a pair of matches in Tiffin, Ohio on Saturday, defeating Marietta College 3-2, but falling to Heidelberg University 3-1.
The Spartans move to 8-9 on the season, while Marietta drops to 3-14 and Heidelberg improves to 14-5 overall.
CWRU defeated the Pioneers in the first match of the day 25-20, 16-25, 25-21, 29-31 and 15-12. The Spartans performance was highlighted by 12 service aces throughout the five sets.
Junior outside hitter Gianna Lambert led the Spartans with 17 kills, while first-year outside hitter Rea Marfatia collected 16. Junior setter Sara Rogers led the team with 38 assists. Defensively, sophomore libero Alyssa Blessinger recorded a team-high 18 digs and three service aces, while Rogers and first-year defensive specialist Ansley Yamaato each tallied 14 digs.
CWRU then fell to Heidelberg in the second match of the day, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-21.
Sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Ngo paced the Spartans on the attack with a team-best 16 kills, while Marfatia added 10 to the tally. Rogers led the team with 30 assists. Blessinger led the Spartan defense with 24 digs, while Rogers contributed 14.
Case Western Reserve will look to get back in the win column when they host Hiram College at Horsburgh Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 13th. The match is slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
