On 'Senior Day' at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team fell to the College of Wooster in four sets on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match.

With the loss, the Spartans fell to 12-12 on the season, while the Fighting Scots improved to 17-8.

Prior to the match, Case Western Reserve celebrated their three senior team members, right side hitters Kassie Blank and Natalie Rothrock and middle blocker Maggie Sereika, as part of 'Senior Day.' 

First-year outside hitter Rea Marfatia led the Spartans with 12 kills and added 12 digs. First-year setter Ansley Yamaato had a team-high 16 assists and contributed 10 digs, while sophomore libero Alyssa Blessinger led the squad with 14 digs. Also contributing 13 assists was junior setter Sara Rogers.

The match started with a back-and-forth first set. The Spartans used a 7-2 run punctuated by a kill from Marfatia to pull ahead 16-10. The Scots then went on a 10-2 run to take a 20-18 lead. However, CWRU scored seven of the final nine points, ending on a kill from junior outside hitter Gianna Lambert, to take the opening set 25-22.

Wooster rallied and took the next three sets 25-18, 25-20, and 25-13.

The Spartans will now turn their attention to the University Athletic Association Volleyball Championships next weekend in Cleveland. CWRU, who will be hosting the tournament and is seeded sixth, will face the third-seeded University of Chicago at 2:00 p.m. The winner of the match will face the winner of the match between second-seeded Emory University and seventh-seeded Brandeis University at 4:00 p.m. while the losers of the two matches will face off at 6:00 p.m.
