Box Score 2 On Sunday at the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a win over the University of Rochester (N.Y.) and a loss to the 22nd-ranked University of Chicago.
The second UAA Round Robin was hosted by Brandeis University at the Gosman Athletic Center in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The Spartans moved to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the UAA, while the Yellowjackets are 5-9 overall and 0-4 in the UAA and the Maroons record is now 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the UAA.
CWRU defeated Rochester in straight sets 25-16, 25-13 and 25-22.
Junior outside hitter Gianna Lambert and sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Ngo led the Spartans with seven kills apiece, while Ngo also added three total blocks. Junior Sara Rogers handled the setting duties, as she recorded a game-high 22 assists. Defensively, sophomore libero Alyssa Blessinger tallied a game-high 18 digs, while Rogers registered nine digs.
Against the Maroons, CWRU fell 25-20, 25-22 and 25-21.
First-year outside hitter Rea Marfatia led the squad with nine kills and Rogers added 19 assists. Lambert contributed eight kills to the attack, while Blessinger and Rogers each led the team with 11 digs.
Case Western Reserve will now prepare to travel to Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio on Saturday, October 9 for a match against Marietta College and one against the hosts. The match against Marietta is slated to start at 3:00 p.m., with Heidelberg to follow at 5:00 p.m.
