Box Score 2 The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split a pair of matches to close out the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational. The Spartans fell to 13th-ranked Hope College in four sets, but bounced back to win 3-0 against Washington & Jefferson College.
CWRU moves to 4-7 on the campaign, while Hope improved to 7-3 and W&J dropped to 1-10 on the season.
Versus Hope, the Spartans fell by scores 25-17, 25-14, 24-26 and 25-19.
Statistically, senior middle hitter Haley Sims posted a team-best 13 kills. Senior setter Faith Ellis led in assists with 14. Junior Jana Giaquinto tallied a team-high 11 digs, while senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon contributed six kills and 10 digs.
Hope was led by Ana Grunewald who tallied a game-high 21 kills.
Against Washington & Jefferson, the Spartans were victorious by counts 25-10, 25-8 and 25-18.
Sims led the attack with 10 kills. Ellis and junior Jordyn Harberts split the setting duties with 16 and 10 assists, respectively. The Spartan back row was paced by Giaquinto with a team-high 16 digs and sophomore Brooke Dills with 13.
The Presidents were led by Haley Nelson with seven kills and three digs.
Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Wednesday, September 18th, when they return home to host Baldwin Wallace University in Horsburgh Gym. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
