On the first day of the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball dropped two matches, as they lost to Susquehanna University in the early match and fell to the University of Scranton in the late affair.

The Spartans dropped to 3-6 overall, while the River Hawks are now 8-1 and the Royals record is now 5-4.

Against the River Hawks, CWRU fell 24-26, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-21.

Senior middle hitter Haley Sims led the Spartans with 11 kills, and senior outside hitter Karley King and freshman outside hitter Gianna Lambert each contributed 10 kills to the attack. Freshman setter Sara Rogers recorded 15 assists, while senior setter Faith Ellis added 14 to the Spartan total. Defensively, senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon tallied a team-high nine digs and Sims gathered four total blocks.

CWRU fell to Scranton in five sets, 25-14, 25-18, 22-25, 23-25 and 13-15.

Junior middle hitter Katie Kaminski led the Spartans with 13 kills, while Rogers and Ellis totaled 21 and 18 assists, respectively. Junior libero Anna Jaskoviak led the defensive rally with 23 digs, while Ellis added 13 to the team total.

The Spartans are set to play two more matches on the second day of competition at the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational tomorrow. The day will begin with a 3:00 p.m. match against Hope College and then conclude the tournament with a 3:00 p.m. match against Washington & Jefferson College.
