The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams split in their dual meet on Saturday afternoon, with the women claiming a 198-91 win over John Carroll University, but the men falling 170-128 against Blue Streaks.
For the Spartan women, junior Caitlyn VonFeldt won the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 59.42 and claimed the victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.78, while sophomore Sarah Krueger earned a win in the in the 50-yard freestyle (25.19) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.98). VonFeldt and Krueger also teamed with sophomores Kelly Moton and Anna Smith in the 200-yard medley relay to finish first with a time of 1:49.47.
In addition, VonFeldt and Krueger teamed with sophomore Daniella Rupert and first-year Maria Pritchett to claim the title in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.99. Sophomore Hailey Seibert swept the diving event on Saturday, placing first in the one-meter dive (209.25) and first in the three-meter dive (210.75).
Also notching top finishes for the Spartan women were first-year Johanna Pearson in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:05.65), Pritchett in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.71), senior Olivia Picchione in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.26), first-year Abby Halsdorfer in the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.37) and Anna Smith in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.71).
For the men, sophomore Calvin Tecson won the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 21.28 and the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 47.40. In addition, junior Cassiel Yuzik swept the diving events as he scored 235.72 points in the one-meter dive and 246.30 points in the three-meter dive.
Other first-place finishers for the CWRU men include first-year Andrew Smith in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.99.
CWRU will be off from competition next weekend, before traveling to Grove City, Pennsylvania for a tri-meet against Grove City College and the University of Rochester (N.Y.) on Friday, November 22nd and Saturday, November 23rd. Diving events will take place on Friday, while swimming events will take place on Saturday.
