The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving team competed at a tri-meet in Grove City, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, with both the men and women picking up a sweep.
The Spartan men defeated Grove City College (174-126) and the University of Rochester (170-130). The women also picked up their wins against Grove City (204-80) and Rochester (181-117).
The Spartan men stand at 3-2, while the women improve to 4-1 in dual meets this season, following Saturday's meet.
Junior Caitlyn VonFeldt, sophomore Sarah Krueger and first-year Abby Halsdorfer headlined the women's performances, with VonFeldt, Krueger, and Halsdorfer each earning a pair of wins at the meet. VonFeldt won the 100-yard backstroke (59.70) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.26). Krueger won the 50-yard freestyle (25.15) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.26), while Halsdorfer won the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.14) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.83).
VonFeldt and Krueger also teamed with sophomores Kelly Moton and Anna Smith to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.57. VonFeldt and Krueger then teamed with sophomore Daniella Rupert and first-year Maria Pritchett to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.53.
In addition, Pritchett claimed the title in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:12.04 and first-year Johanna Pearson won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:53.19.
For the men, four individuals and one relay team claimed first-place finishes on Saturday. Sophomore Calvin Tecson won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.59 and first-year Andrew Smith won the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:45.93. Sophomore Michael Clough placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.12) and sophomore Kelvin Tay added a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.81). Tecson also teamed with sophomore Ryan Gilbert, first-year Will Bryant and first-year Anatole Borisov to claim the victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.79).
The Spartans will not turn their attention towards their final meet of the fall semester, the Wooster Invitational, from Thursday, December 5th through Saturday, December 7th.
