On the first day of the University Athletic Association Round Robin #1, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a win over 10^th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University and a loss to 18^th-ranked Washington (Mo.) University.

The first UAA Round Robin is hosted by Case Western Reserve at the Veale Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Spartans improve to 12-7 overall and 1-1 in the UAA, while the Tartans are now 17-1 overall and 1-1 in the UAA while the Bears record is 10-5 overall and 2-0 in the UAA.

CWRU defeated CMU in four sets 26-24, 25-19, 11-25 and 25-16.

Four Spartans recorded 10 or more kills throughout the match, with sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon leading the team with 16 kills and sophomore outside hitter Karley King contributing 14 to the attack. Sophomore setter Faith Ellis recorded a game-high 51 assists. Defensively, Ellis tallied a team-high 23 digs and junior libero Karina Bondelid added 20 to the stats.

Against the Bears, CWRU fell 24-26, 25-22, 20-25 and 20-25.

In the hard-fought battle, freshman middle blocker Katie Kaminski led the Spartans with 15 kills, while Ellis added 34 assists. Bondelid led the defensive rally with 16 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Christine Tamura added 13.

CWRU will conclude the first UAA Round Robin with a match-up against New York University on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.
