Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell to ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 3-1 in their final game of the season on Senior Night at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Spartans end their season at 7-10-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the University Athletic Association, while the Tartans conclude their regular season at 13-2-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the UAA.
The Tartans took the lead in the 26th minute of play on Saturday, when Sienna Stritter drilled a shot off a corner kick to the lower left of the goal for her second score of the season. CMU struck again at the 28:57 mark when Emery Noll laced a shot from 25 yards out for her first goal of the season. The Tartans added one more goal in the first half, when Stritter received a pass from Ashley Akin and scored on a shot from approximately 15 yards out.
CWRU got on the board near the end of the second half when senior midfielder Elle Zadina scored her eighth goal of the season in the 76th minute via a penalty kick. Zadina's eight goals on the season ties her for 10th-most in a single-season in program history. The eight goals in a single-season are also the most since Ana Arruda scored nine goals during the 2008 season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Unterborn went the distance and made eight saves.
Prior to the start of the game, the team recognized its five graduating seniors – Neha Cheemalavagu, Melanie Crucitt, Gabby Kiefer, Gabrielle Scariano and Elle Zadina – who were each playing in their final home game of their collegiate careers. Together the group has totaled 28 wins over the past four seasons. With their contributions, the team has appeared in the United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) National poll, while consistently ranking among the top teams in the Great Lakes Region. In addition, the team has excelled academically, earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award in each of their four seasons at CWRU.
Saturday's game concludes the 2017 campaign for Case Western Reserve.
