Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team scored three second half goals on Sunday afternoon to earn a 5-2 win against University Athletic Association opponent Emory University.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 7-10-0 overall, including a 1-5-0 mark in the UAA. The Eagles drop to 9-6-1 overall, with a 1-4-1 record in the UAA.
Senior midfielder Elle Zadina started the scoring early for the Spartans, striking from the right side of the box for her seventh goal of the season at the 7:00 mark.
Emory would then even the score at 1-1 less than 30 seconds later. CWRU would regain the lead at the 20:46 mark when junior forward Melanie Kukura recovered a rebound off of a shot from sophomore forward Kimberly Chen, and tapped it in for her second goal of the season.
The Eagles would even the game up again at the 26:52 mark. The 2-2 tie would hold through the remainder of the first half.
In the second half, the Spartans broke the tie in 72nd minute when Zadina crossed a ball off of corner kick and junior midfielder Angelina Batty shot it in from the right side of the goal. The score was her first of the season.
Less than 10 minutes later, CWRU added to their lead when Chen delivered a pass to junior midfielder Emily Dickens who laced a shot from the top left of the box, approximately 20 yards out, for her first goal of the campaign.
The Spartans wrapped up their scoring in the 85th minute when Chen sent a perfect cross to Kukura who tapped the ball past the Emory keeper for her second goal of the game and third of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Unterborn played the entirety of the game and made 10 saves. She improved to 7-10-0 on the year with the victory.
The Spartans finished the contest with 12 shots, including 11 on goal. Kukura led CWRU with three shots on goal.
Case Western Reserve will wrap-up its 2017 campaign next weekend at home, when the Spartans host ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 4th at DiSanto Field.
