Three Earn All-UAA Honors on Day One of UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

CHICAGO - Junior distance runner Taylor O'Neil (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) broke the school record in the 800-meter run on day one of the UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Chicago at the Ratner Center.

The Spartans are currently third place with 26 points after the first day of competition.

O'Neil crossed the finish line with a time of 2:23.01 to set the new record. The previous record was set in 2011 by Bettina Kaphingst with a time of 2:23.53.

Earning All-UAA honors in the 5,000-meter run, senior Kristen Ruckstuhl (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) crossed the finish line with a time of 17:45.37 for second place.

Junior Christen Saccuccci (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) finished third for All-UAA honors in the pole vault clearing the bar set at 3.30 meters.  

Also earning All-UAA honors, senior Emeline Liu (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) tossed 13.95 meters in the weight throw for a second place finish.

In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Rachel Tan (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) stopped the clock for a time of 9.47 to qualify for the finals that will be held on day two of the championship.  Tan also finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.14 meters.

The Spartans will conclude the 2015 UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow, Sunday March 1 beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
