ATLANTA – Freshman Drew Hamilton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) broke his third and fourth individual school records in three days and was named University Athletic Association Rookie of the Year as the Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team concluded competition at the 2015 UAA Championship at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center.
The Spartans finished sixth as a team with 794 points. Host and No. 3 nationally ranked Emory University won the team title with 1,551 points, while No. 10 University of Chicago finished runner-up at 1,408.
Hamilton swam a 15:54.06 in the 1,650-yard freestyle, placing fourth. His time broke the previous CWRU record of 15:58.91, which was set in 1999 by John Gellin.
For the weekend, Hamilton set school records in the 500 free (4:28.98), 400 individual medley (3:58.77), 1,650 free, 1,000 free and with the 800 free relay. The program's first-ever UAA Rookie of the Year won the 500 free and placed runner-up in the 400 IM.
Joining in the record-breaking performances, freshman Oliver Hudgins (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) set the first of his career with a 200 backstroke time of 1:51.28. The previous school record of 1:52.54 was set 15 years ago by Matthew Anderson.
Also on Saturday, junior Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior) placed third in the 200 butterfly in 1:51.56.
With the season having ended for most of the team, select Spartans will now travel to Chicago to compete in the Midwest Invitational "last chance meet" on Friday and Saturday, February 20-21.
The NCAA Championship is set for March 18-21 in Shenandoah, Texas.
