Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team fell short in a 77-75 loss against Hiram College on the second day of the 31st annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament sponsored by BSN Sports at Marietta College on Sunday afternoon.
CWRU drops to 1-5 on the season, while Hiram improves to 5-2 overall.
Four individuals scored in double digits for Case Western Reserve. Junior guard Jessica McCoy led the Spartans with 19 points and a career-high seven assists. Sharing the team-high nine rebounds, freshman guard Hillary Hellmann and sophomore forward Kara Hageman tallied 18 and 16 points, respectively. Hageman also earned a career-high four blocks. Senior forward Laura Mummey recorded 12 points and a team-high three steals.
McCoy earned All-Tournament Team honors after the two-game weekend.
Despite 12 different ties and 14 lead changes throughout the game, the Spartans were unable to pull ahead of the Terriers for good. CWRU's largest lead came with 9:48 left to play in the third quarter as McCoy put in a layup off a fast-break after a steal from Mummey.
Kaylee Shockley and Mercedes Jones paced the Terriers each scoring 23 points.
The Spartans will return to Cleveland for their first home game of the 2015-16 season in Horsburgh Gymnasium on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. against the College of Wooster.
