CLEVELAND – In its first official competition in more than a month, the No. 25 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team defeated visiting Allegheny College (Pa.) by a score of 210-70 on Saturday afternoon at Veale Natatorium.
The Spartans (6-1) have now won six consecutive dual meets, while the Gators drop to 1-7.
CWRU claimed the top spot in 13-of-16 events led by a four-time winner in junior Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior).
Individually, Tam took first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.71) and the 100 butterfly (51.91). His time in the 50 free was a career best.
In relays, Tam took part in a pair of first-place finishes. The first came in the 400 medley as he swam with senior Andrew Bollinger (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) and freshmen John Kilbane (Independence, Ohio/St. Edward) and Oliver Hudgins (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) to a time of 3:34.71. To close the afternoon, CWRU's 200 free relay consisting of seniors Elliott Kerbel (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) and Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) along with Hudgins and Tam touched the wall in 1:27.13.
Kerbel (100 breaststroke/1:02.63) and Haufler (200 free/1:46.17) also won individual events.
The Spartans are back in action next Saturday, January 24 with the final home competition of the season. The team hosts Ohio Northern University for Seniors' Day at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the meet, CWRU will honor 12 swimming & diving senior student-athletes.
