GRANVILLE, Ohio – Led by 3-for-6 days at the plate by junior second baseman Molly O'Brien (Northbrook, Ill./Loyola) and junior designated player Gena Roberts (Miami, Fla./Palmer-Trinity), the Case Western Reserve University softball team reached the 20-vcitory plateau in a doubleheader split at Denison University on Saturday afternoon.

The Big Red (12-12) took game one by a score of 6-0 before the Spartans (20-10) earned the victory in game two with an 8-0 win in five innings. CWRU has now reached at least 20 wins in three-straight seasons.

O'Brien was 2-for-3 in game two with an RBI and two runs scored, and Roberts was a perfect 3-for-3 in the second game with a double and two runs scored.

In game one, the two teams went scoreless until the hosts scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one more in the sixth. Two errors opened the door in the fifth before Kerry Hager provided a three-run double for Denison.

Freshman Annie Wennerberg (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) pitched five innings and allowed just one earned run in the loss. Wennerberg drops to 10-3 for the season. For Denison, Rebecca Dyer (7-3) pitched seven shutout innings and struck out five batters.

CWRU wasted no time in getting its offense going in game two as O'Brien led off the game with a hit and would later score on a wild pitch. In the second, Wennerberg reached on an error that scored sophomore centerfielder Rachel Komar (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) and Roberts to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead.

The Spartans would then add their final five runs in the fourth inning thanks to RBI singles by O'Brien, senior shortstop Makenzie Lein (Petersburg, Mich./Ida), senior catcher Amy Taylor (Brier, Wash./Inglemoor) and sophomore third baseman Erin Dreger (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance).

On the mound, sophomore Rebecca Molnar (Independence, Ohio/Independence) improved to 5-0 this season as she scattered just five hits through five innings with a pair of strikeouts.

CWRU is next in action on Monday, April 14 when it travels to Geneva College (Pa.) to play a make-up doubleheader from March 21. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
