BECKLEY, W. Va. - Due to rain and poor return travel conditions, the Sunday, March 2 neutral site baseball game between Case Western Reserve University and Marietta College has been cancelled.
The game was called in the third inning with No. 15 nationally ranked Marietta ahead, 8-6. The Spartans and Pioneers were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but both sides agreed this morning to reduce to a single game with inclement weather in the forecast for each team's return trip north.
The Spartans (5-1) are now idle from competition until the annual University Athletic Association Championship in the "Sunshine State." CWRU will open versus Brandeis University (Mass.) at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9 at Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford.
The Spartans and Pioneers are scheduled to play once more this spring with a Sunday, April 6 doubleheader at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland.
